NDF sports tourney kicks off at Keetmanshoop

The sixth edition of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) annual sports tournament kicked off at Keetmanshoop on Monday.
This year’s sports edition is scheduled for 05 to 10 August and is being hosted by the 12 Motorised Infantry Brigade (Mot Inf Bde) based at Kaptein Hendrik Witbooi barracks, Keetmanshoop.
Speaking to Nampa here on Monday, 12 Bde sports vice chairperson of the management committee, Lieutenant Colonel Samora Njambari said the tournament includes sport codes such as soccer, volleyball, netball, boxing, pool table and field and track.

Woman kept hidden for 22 years because of albinism

A 34-year-old woman with albinism says she was kept hidden from society for 22 years due to attacks from community members on her family because of her genetic condition.
Claudia Mwira, along with her father, Ndumba Mwira, revealed this during a public hearing on discrimination and other challenges faced by persons with albinism held here on Thursday by the Office of The Ombudsman.

The family of Petrina Johannes received donations and assistance from good Samaritan

The family of Petrina Johannes received donations and assistance from good Samaritan from Tuudila Musical Works today.
They received groceries, cosmetics and many others.
Johannes is a 21 years old lady who is taking care of her siblings and her kids at their homestead at Okakango in Okankolo constituency while the mother left them home alone after 7 years. Though they have been starving she make sure that her family have something to eat.
She returned home yesterday with the assistance of the councillor.

BoN gives N.dollars 5 million towards drought relief

The Bank of Namibia (BoN) here on Tuesday donated N.dollars 5 million to the Office of the Prime Minister towards the national drought relief programme.
This is in response to the government’s call for all Namibians to contribute to the initiative.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Government from BoN Governor Ipumbu Shiimi, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila noted that the call for support has been receiving positive feedback from various donors.

Ovaherero should work together with other tribes: Kambazembi

Chief Sam Kambazembi of the Kambazembi Royal House on Sunday called on fellow Ovaherero people to work hand in hand with other tribes in order to build unity between Namibian tribes.
Speaking here at the Red Flag (Otjiserandu) commemoration, Kambazembi said it is not a mistake that Ovaherero are living in Namibia with other tribes.
“It is not by accident that we are living in Namibia with each other but a blessing for Ovaherero people,” he said.

Grootfontein Rugby Club win first division final

Grootfontein Rugby Club were on Saturday crowned champions of the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) domestic league trophy after beating Keetmanshoop 34-17 in the final at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
To reach the final, the two teams had to overcome stiff competition from other opponents competing in the NRU domestic league in play-offs held at the Hage Geingob Stadium on 06 July and 13 July 2019.
In the final on Saturday Grootfontein showed character and determination leading the game from start to finish.

Oshana to host cycling race

Oshana Cycles Club (OCC) will on 27 July host a 50km fun cycling race at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region to pave the way for the club’s main cycling competition slated for 24 August.
Speaking to Nampa here on Thursday, one of the co-founders of the club, Lucky Mbako, said the race route will stretch from Oshana Mall in Ongwediva through Oshakati to the Okatana-Endola Road and back to Ongwediva.
“It is cycling for fun and no participation fee will be paid,” Mbako said, adding that there will be prizes to be won, in the form of vouchers.
