Zimbabwe?s senior national netball team captain, Meriam Lazaro is confident of her team winning the Debmarine Namibia Pent Series tournament underway in Windhoek.
Lazaro was speaking Wednesday shortly after Zimbabwe beat Botswana 52-40 in the second game of the maiden edition of the competition played at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in Olympia.
She told the media Zimbabwe has a really good team that is strong and confident to give every team a run for their money.
?I am not undermining or misjudging other teams but we are stronger and we feel this is our trophy,? she said.
The first quarter ended 10-9; second quarter 27-15; and the third quarter 43-29 in favour of Zimbabwe.
In the last quarter, Botswana threw all they could at Zimbabwe, scoring 11 points but it was not good enough as Zimbabwe walked out victorious.
Speaking to Nampa after the game, Botswana?s Captain Samantha Mbakile said Zimbabwe was the better team on the day as they played a more physical game, which they found hard to match.
?We came here to support Namibia improve on their rankings, but our aim is to walk away with medals and I am confident that in our next game we will do better as we learned a lot from our encounter with Zimbabwe,? she said.
Zimbabwe?s next game will be against Namibia on Friday at 15h00, while Botswana and Swaziland will clash on Thursday at 15h00.
Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Swaziland are battling it out for better international ranking during the five-day tournament which started Wednesday and ends Sunday.
