The Corperate Communication Officer for Ongwediva Town Council Jackson Muma said,
As from Wednesday, 14 February till end of February 2018, the Ongwediva Town Council will kick-start the campaign aimed at disseminating preventative information to the public on Cholera and Hepatitis E.
This followed reports of confirmed cases of Cholera and Hepatitis E in Windhoek. Ongwediva Town Council took position to inform and educate its residents to be on alert and exercise all necessary preventative measures by prioritizing personal and environmental hygiene at all times.
Though there are no cases reported from Ongwediva, this is purely a preventative move, hence the saying; “prevention is better than cure”.
Community talks will be arranged in various parts of the Town in order to sensitize the public on the spread and prevention of the two diseases. Therefore, residents are requested to attend meetings which will be invited in due course, as per their respective areas.
In line with the said health education campaign, Council wishes to emphasize on the main Cholera and Hepatitis E preventative measures:
- Proper usage of sanitation facilities.
- Usage of safe water.
- Washing of hands regularly.
The success of this campaign entirely depends on the cooperation and understanding of the general public in applying preventative measures as a fight against any outbreak. Ill-health has a negative impact to development.
