Taxpayers will as from January 2019 be able to submit their tax returns to the inland revenue department using its Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS).
This means that the current tax system, where taxpayers submit their tax returns at the Ministry of Finance’s inland departments, will officially shut down on 31 December 2018.
Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary, Ericah Shafudah noted in a statement that the new system will become operational from 17 January 2019 and would be accessible at all times.
As part of the transition from the old system to the new system, there will be a two-week system downtime for all individual and business transactions, before the new system comes into operation starting from 31 December 2018 till 16 January 2019.
ITAS project manager, Sirkka Masilo told Nampa provision has been made for individuals who do not have access to the internet to still submit their returns physically at the Inland Revenue offices around the country.
